Surfing the internets yesterday afternoon, I found THIS LIST of cartoons as commentary on smartphones.  I knew I was on to something when I refused one in college.  Now, iphone always within arm’s reach, I know I’m not paying attention to what’s happening around me.  I’m falling into the temptation and sin which is outlined in The Screwtape Letters:

“The humans live in time but our Enemy destines them for eternity.  He therefore, I believe, wants them to attend chiefly to two things, to eternity itself, and to that point of time which they call the Present.  For the Present is the point at which time touches eternity.”

That is to say: I’m attending to everything on my phone (in the past?  in the future?), and less and less to the present moment happening in front of me.  I’m attending less and less to where God is, because of my iphone.

Last summer, on the heels of a trip to Europe, I preached this sermon entitled “Look Up!  Look Out!” on the same subject matter.
